![]() ![]() Now they’ve upped the ante with the new Version 4.0 for Macintosh.*įontExplorer X Pro gives you an iTunes-esque way of adding, purchasing, and managing your fonts. In more recent years, the German firm Linotype, a division of Monotype, has added the very notable FontExplorer X Pro to the field.įontExplorer X Pro has always been an excellent program with a nice set of features. Since the early days of desktop publishing, there has been software to to help designers manage this load – most notably, Suitcase, which is quite good. The font handling tools on both operating systems are rudimentary at best. ![]() To be fair, neither the Mac OS X nor Windows platforms make this job any easier. That’s not counting the myriad of duplications, incomplete sets, and corrupt sets with which one has to contend. Years of design software updates, free font internet sites, purchases, and let’s not forget those “borrowed” fonts, have left most professional graphic artists and design enthusiasts with an unwieldy collection of type that’s difficult to control. I have been using Adobe products for 20 odd years and there have been ups and down along the way but I earn my living this way and I want what I use to be good so i will provide feedback and questions where and when I can - I like to think I put something back.To be completely honest, with very few exceptions (you know who you are), most graphic designers do an absolutely abysmal job of font management. Odd huh? But that's just a little annoyance in the grand scheme of all things and also a teeny tiny adventure. Right now i also have a problem with Apple Mail and the cursor position when editing text after using a magic mouse - it's about 1.5 character out. Many of those of us who have upgraded early are on a learning curve AND helping to solve problems in the world where operating systems are actually being used on so many different machines in so many circumstances it is impossible to test for.Įvery time I find a problem, I learn something new about the OS that I didn't know before and I, and we all, help a little. I agree with you if you can't be bothered with trying to provide feedback and putting up with annoyances and glitches and the like stay away. Normally I would concur with your premise of 'not upgrading until it is sorted' but in the real world, out here where the wild things are really happening it's the only way to find the cracks in an update. I can honestly say that Adobe CC is the worst "upgrade" I have had in my 23 years of working with design software. ![]() I have since delted the old program so that isnt the problem now. (seriously, it was over 6 hours on the phone). At that point there was some conflict with my old version of Indesign CS4 I still had on my machine. The first time I was on the phone with India for the entire day while they tried to trouble shoot. ![]() So far I have reinstalled Indesign CC three times. idml so I can use CS6 (which works beautifully btw). I need my colleague to back save ALL my projects (I have over 30) to. However, deleting the prefernces (or starting with Shift+Option+Command+Control) doesnt work either.īasically I cant even turn the darn thing on now. Try deleting the preferences folders and then restart Adobe Indesign." Unable to launch Adobe Indesign as you may not have sufficient permissions to access the preferences folders. I uninstalled it and installed it again - still wont start up. I have tried resetting preference - it worked for a day the first time, a few hours the second time - and not at all the thrid time. A colleague in my office got Adobe CC same time as me and does NOT have Mavericks and she is running all programs fine. I have Mavericks on my machine and I have all the same problems as those above - CRAZY SLOW - (unuseable). ![]()
